This course is particularly geared towards practicing interior designers, or those who already have a keen eye for interior design and are interested in learning more about design in the exterior environment (garden design).

I demystify the process of garden design, taking you through how to sketch a plan, select plants, lighting, and accessories–and design a garden with its own unique creative stamp. Each model garden features a plan, an overall picture with close–ups, and notes on why the garden works and how its features can be re–created. Unstinting in its detail and practical advice, this course is ideal for anyone who wants to create something lovely and long–lasting in their own (or someone else’s) backyard

Learning outcome: Having completed the course you will understand how to measure, plot and plan a new garden and you will have the confidence to design your own garden on paper with the creative steps demonstrated each week on the course.

Week 1  Your garden is for you to enjoy – what’s your dream out there?   In the first week we look at all the wonderful possibilities for your garden; it’s more than a place to do gardening. We start the design process off by asking what you want from your garden. 

Week 2  How do you want to use your space?  We look at your space – measure it up and also learn how to assess what it has to offer.

Week 3  Assessing and measuring what your outside space can offer.  We bring these together on paper – what you have and what you want in a step-by-step procedure that leads to a sound design

Week 4  Bringing it all together on paper to produce a wonderful design.  Finally we move back out into the garden to lay the design out and we look at plants for your garden and ways to decorate the space

This course is for anyone who is enthusiastic about designing their garden. Beginner or seasoned hobbiest - all you need is spades of curiosity, buckets of passion and an appetite to learn.
