Organic Gardening

  • Course length: 4 weeks

  • Next start date: 3rd May 2014

  • Course price: £120 (Approx. US$192)

Over the 4 week course I will be presenting a series of lectures that will help you understand both the Big Issues – in other words – the philosophy behind organic gardening, and the Practicalities – in other words – how to do it. I will guide you through the steps you can take to adopt a chemical-free, sustainable and benevolent way of caring for the organic garden that will be good for your health and that of the environment – while keeping the organic garden looking great.

This course is for those of you who really care about the bigger picture. You don’t just want to grow a few veg; but want to change your lifestyle, care for our planet, and truly understand the philosophy and history behind the organic garden and sustainable living.  Stephanie Donaldson (Gardens Editor for Country Living Magazine, as well as having written many books on organic gardening) will take you through the true meaning of organic gardening, and on a fascinating history tour to help you understand  organic gardening, sustainable living, permaculture, shedding insight on how industrial agriculture has impacted on how we can practice sustainable living in the organic garden today.

What is organic gardening?

Organic gardening is the science and art of gardening by incorporating the entire landscape design and environment to improve and maximize the garden soil’s health, structure, texture, as well as maximize the production and health of developing plants without using synthethic commercial fertilizers, pesticides, or fungicides.”

What is permaculture?

According to the Permaculture Association – Permaculture works with nature to make a better world for all. By observing the natural world we can see a set of principles at work. Permaculture design uses these principles to develop integrated systems that provide for our needs of food, shelter, energy and community in ways that are healthy and efficient.  We can use permaculture design methods to improve the quality and productivity of our individual lives, our society and our environment.  The Permaculture Association is the national charity that supports people to learn about and use permaculture.
