I always thought you had to have masses of land to grow spuds. Not so. Look at this very cool potato box!

What a great tip courtesy of The Seattle Times. The Times’ guide for building a potato growing box yields up to a 100 lbs. of potatoes in a mere 4 square feet. By planting your potatoes in layers within a tall box, you’re essentially building a potato growing high rise. You can wait until the fall for a full harvest or if you’re getting antsy for some garden fresh potatoes you can pop a board off the bottom and steal some of the mature potatoes. If you’re interested in more ideas on growing veg in small spaces I’d definitely consider Alex Mitchell’s Edible Gardening Made Easy.

    Hi there
Thank you for your interesting blog, it’s really useful and proves that potatoes are just so simple to plant however much space you have.
I wrote a blog about turning a weedy spot into a potato plot and wondered if you wanted to take a look at it; I too am trying to publicise just how easy “growing your own” is.
