The Living Legacy Garden The Chelsea Flower Show 2015

By Alex N

The Living Legacy Garden The ‘Living Legacy’ Garden commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, and celebrates the role of Wellington College as the national memorial to the 1st Duke of Wellington.

Designed by Andrew Wilson and Gavin McWilliam of Wilson McWilliam Studio, the composition of the Living Legacy  Garden reflects the bleakness and brutality of the Battle of Waterloo, with elements of the garden inspired by the landscape and terrain of Waterloo.

The garden progresses from this through to a representation of the iconic architecture of Wellington College, on which, as at the College itself, the bricks will be inscribed with the markings of current pupils from the College, its sister school Wellington College International Shanghai and Wellington

Standing looking over the garden will be the sculpture of a lone figure, designed by Andrew Wilson and Gavin McWilliam.  The figure will be partially hidden by rising ground and willow foliage, reflecting how Wellington was famous for hiding or partially obscuring his troops
